Trip Types
Understand the three trip types — Round Trip, One-Way, and Shuttle Run — and when to use each.
Three Trip Types
MXBS supports three types of motorcoach trips. The type you choose affects the form fields, bid submission, and pricing structure for operators.
Round Trip
A round trip starts and ends at the same location. The bus picks up passengers, transports them to a destination, and returns to the origin.
Use for: School field trips, sports events (travel and return), day tours, corporate events.
Date fields: Departure date + Return date (both required).
Routing: Pickup → Destination → Return to pickup location.
Example: Lincoln High School needs a bus to pick up students at school, drive to the state capital for a field trip, and return the same day.
One-Way
A one-way trip has different pickup and dropoff locations with no return leg.
Use for: Airport transfers, moving groups between two cities, event arrivals.
Date fields: Departure date only.
Routing: Pickup → Dropoff (no return).
Example: A conference needs transportation from a hotel to the convention center — single direction.
Shuttle Run
A shuttle run is a recurring multi-day service operating on a fixed schedule. Common for daily employee commutes or recurring event transportation.
Use for: Employee shuttles, stadium event transport, daily campus runs.
Date fields: Departure date (start of service) + Return date (end of service period).
Additional fields:
- Days of week — which days the shuttle operates (Mon–Sat, multi-select)
- Shifts — one or more shift types per day:
- Morning — early AM start
- Evening — afternoon/PM start
- Night — late night start
- General — unspecified time
Pricing: Shuttle bids are priced per-shift using shuttle pricing configs, not the standard commercial pricing. Operators set a base rate per shift per vehicle type.
Shuttle runs generate significantly different bid forms for operators. Operators must have a shuttle pricing config set up to bid on shuttle runs.
